Biography
Molly Drake has been teaching Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) in Long Beach for over 20 years. She graduated from Molloy with her Masters of Science in 2007. She has her certifications in both Elementary (Pre-K-6) and Special (Birth-6) Education. She holds a diversity certificate from Adelphi University, as well as CPI and Mental Health certifications. Molly has worked as a general education classroom teacher and a self contained special education teacher. She spent many years as a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIS) in classrooms throughout Nassau County. She has presented at Parent Academy Junior to families within her school district and at conferences on Long Island. She has worked on multiple committees in her district, including writing curriculum and creating a Pre-K report card that aligns to district and NYS learning standards, as well as training teachers to implement assessment tools in the classroom. She has also mentored new teachers and worked as a Parent Trainer. Molly lives on the South Shore of Long Island with her husband and three children.

This session will discuss how to incorporate SEL into daily read alouds within the early childhood classroom. Participants will learn about framing thinking routines and questioning as teaching strategies to develop inquiry based learning regarding SEL practices.
What will participants learn?

Participants will discuss Social Emotional Learning.

Participants will use everyday read alouds to deepen SEL core competencies.

Participants will be able to create questions (essential/focus) to add an element of inquiry to their current SEL curriculum.
