Abstract
A Dialectical Synthesis between Different Traditions. The Case Hegel - The recent interest in Hegel by such thinkers as Robert Brandom and John McDowell in the United States and Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer in Germany has inserted the dialectic into the long-standing debate between the analytic and continental traditions. This paper shows both that and how Hegel’s dialectic can function as a bridge be-tween these conflicting traditions. The underlying intention of the paper, however, is to persuade those on both sides of the debate that the label of “genuine philosophy” belongs exclusively to neither the analytic nor the continental traditions. Rather, from the dialectical perspective, philosophy is the on-going dialogue and critical exchange between the two traditions. What is significant about the analytic and continental traditions is not that one is right and the other wrong, but that each participates in the dialogue and criti-cal exchange that constitutes philosophy as it is today.
Il recente risveglio dell’interesse per l’opera di Hegel da parte di autori quali Robert Brandom e John Mc Dowell negli Stati uniti d’America come pure da parte di Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer in Germa-nia ha collocato la dialettica all’interno di una discussione di lunga data tra la tradizione analitica e quella continentale. Questo contributo mostra tanto il fatto che quanto il modo in cui la dialettica hegeliana pos-sa fungere da ponte tra queste due tradizioni conflittuali. L’intento che anima il presente contributo, ad ogni modo, è quello di produrre un argomento, che risulti persuasivo nei confronti degli autori di entrambi gli schieramenti, secondo cui la dicitura “filosofia autentica” non è patrimonio esclusivo di nessuna delle due tradizioni. Piuttosto, considerata da un vertice dialettico, la filosofia è dialogo continuo e scambio critico tra le due tradizioni. Ciò che conta riguardo la tradizione analitica e di quella continentale, non è stabilire torti e ragioni in senso assoluto, ma che ciascuna sia partecipe di quel dialogo e scambio critico che costituisce la filosofia nella forma che oggi le appartiene.
