Description

This is a bronze Franklin Mint collectible coin honoring the invention of the Polio Vaccine in 1955. The face of the coin is printed with an image of Dr. Jonas Salk administering the polio vaccination to a young child. The reverse of the coin reads "1955- APR. 1 - Senate ratifies treaty to end U.S. occupation of West Germany; APR. 12 - Report on Salk vaccine test reveals that it gives immunity against poliomyelities; SEP. 24 - The nation worried by President Eisenhower's heart attack; DEC. 5 - Merger of AFL and CIO unions."
