Abstract

Human trafficking, specifically sex trafficking, has gone on from as far back as the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Thousands of vulnerable adults and children are traded yearly and coerced into various forms of exploitation. This paper focuses on the phenomenon of sex trafficking and its history in America. It analyzes the pandemic of trafficking regarding its victims and who their traffickers are, shining light on the trauma these victims endure. This paper delves into real life survivor stories and the social media influence on trafficking, federal and state legislation, economic impacts and rehabilitative services for victims. Most importantly, the question of this thesis is answered, and that is if the current laws in America have been effective in the fight against sex trafficking.
